12/31/2015 0 Comments It really is extraordinary timeThe life of a mother can feel so quotidian. Day in, day out, we feed the children, fold the laundry, wash the dishes, rock the baby, read the books, pick up the toys, make dinner, kiss the husband, say prayers, tuck little ones into beds, turn out the lights, and repeat again tomorrow. Time sometimes seems to move slowly on a micro-level. And yet the seasons fly by. Life can, indeed, seem ordinary. In reality, the ordinary is extraordinary. Here we are, on this planet spinning out in space, amidst stars and galaxies the number of which our minds cannot fathom. And yet, on a cellular level, that mind-which-cannot-fathom is made of this same stardust, vibrating to sing with the whole of creation! We are pilgrims moving through a Far Country in search of Home on a journey that is fraught with peril and strife and also the most exquisite beauty and wonder we can imagine. And, as Christians, we are told that all of this is but a shadow of what is to come. How much more extraordinary can time be? My deep desire is to mark this time well. I want to experience this journey with eyes wide-open. I want to engage my life with care and deliberation. I want to treat those around me with mercy and compassion. I want to foster connection and cooperation. I want to see this time through which I move as both ordinary and extraordinary. I'll say it again - I want to mark it well. My vision for this site is pretty simple. Here, I will share how my family and I are finding ways to mark this time. The liturgical year, the feasts of the church, the observance of the seasons, as well as daily practices and prayers, journaling, art, music, excellent books...I hope to chronicle our experiences with all of that here. And whatever you find here, I hope it will help you see and celebrate the extraordinary in your own Ordinary. Day in, day out. Let's mark it well.
